APEM’s Water Quality division continues to grow, and we're looking for a Hydrometry Consultant to join our Physical Data Team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain broad experience across hydrometric data collection, environmental monitoring and water management. You will support projects focused on drought planning, water resource investigations, flood risk work and wider programmes across the UK water sector.
You’ll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including hydrologists, geomorphologists, hydro-ecologists and environmental scientists. The role combines fieldwork with technical analysis, offering the chance to build your hydrometry skillset while also contributing to data processing, reporting and client delivery. From spot flow gauging to bathymetric surveys and telemetry installation, you’ll be involved in practical, meaningful work that helps safeguard people and the environment.
We’re looking for someone who is hands-on, organised and curious. Ideally with previous experience working with hydrometric equipment or environmental monitoring. You’ll need to be comfortable working in and around rivers, reservoirs and coastal environments, often as part of a small survey team. Because many of our projects are in the South of England, strong access to this region is essential.
You’ll need to bring (essential):

A BSc or MSc in a relevant subject

Experience in hydrometry, environmental monitoring or similar work

Experience installing or maintaining environmental monitoring or telemetry equipment

Confident handling large datasets, including validation and error checking
-
Good communication and report-writing skills

Strong hands-on practical skills (including use of power or hand tools)

Strong computer literacy
-
Full UK driving licence
It’s a bonus if you have (desirable):

Experience with GNSS or Total Station survey equipment

RYA Level 2 Powerboat Handling qualification

Land surveying or river cross-section survey experience

Experience with rainfall or weather station assets

Qualifications such as Working at Height, First Aid, Confined Space, CSCS, Water Safety or Water Hygiene

Membership of a relevant professional body
