About The Role

Are you a marine mammal specialist with substantial experience in impact assessment for major marine infrastructure? Do you have the technical knowledge and judgement to advise on complex marine mammal issues, from underwater noise and mitigation through to EIA, HRA and consenting? Are you ready to combine technical leadership with client management, project delivery and mentoring?

GoBe Consultants, part of the APEM Group, is looking for a Principal Marine Mammal Consultant to join our growing Marine Mammal team. We’ve advised on more than 40 offshore wind projects representing over 30GW of capacity across UK and non-UK waters, alongside a growing portfolio of tidal energy, interconnector and port development projects.

You’ll lead marine mammal workstreams across major projects, from pre-application and site prospecting through EIA and HRA, consent applications and post-consent monitoring. You’ll provide technical advice on marine mammal impacts, underwater noise, mitigation and monitoring, while helping clients and project teams navigate complex environmental and consenting challenges.

Alongside technical delivery, you’ll act as a trusted adviser to clients and stakeholders, review and sign off technical outputs, manage projects and resources, and lead and mentor consultants within the team. You’ll also contribute to tenders, business development and the continued development of GoBe’s marine mammal services and wider project portfolio.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • A degree (preferably MSc), in a marine focussed environmental or ecological subject.
  • Experience of EIAs and HRAs for large marine infrastructure projects, or experience evaluating EIAs on behalf of a competent authority or consultee.
  • Excellent working knowledge of marine mammal impact assessment including underwater noise impacts and mitigation and monitoring methods.
  • Working knowledge of UK and Ireland legislation with regards to marine mammals.
  • Experience working with and developing relationships with regulators and stakeholders.
  • To be able to provide technical advice and presentations to clients and colleagues as required.
  • Project management experience delivering projects within budget and to a high standard.

At GoBe, you’ll work alongside specialists across the wider APEM Group and have the opportunity to contribute to some of the UK’s largest and most complex marine infrastructure projects. We’re also committed to developing our people, sharing knowledge and continuing to improve the services we provide.
