About The Role

Are you currently a marine mammal specialist with a background in consultancy? Are you driven by the requirements for sustainable development in the marine environment and the need for environmental protection and effective management. Or maybe you come from a regulatory body or academic background and want to develop your experience within a world class consultancy.  APEM Group are developing our marine mammal capabilities, and this is an exciting opportunity for a marine mammal ecologist to join our marine consultancy team.

With the support of APEM’s highly experienced marine consultancy team you will be involved with tendering activity and all aspects of project delivery including marine survey design, stakeholder and client engagement, and data review/data collation and data analysis and interpretation for a wide range of marine projects with particular emphasis on marine mammal projects.

In this role, you will also author and coordinate delivery for a wide range of marine mammal ecological assessments (Scoping reports, PEIR and EIA and HRA reports), as well as managing responsibilities for a variety of marine projects ensuring delivery to a diverse client base. We are focused on people development, and you will be encouraged to attend or present at marine conferences/events and undertake training to develop your skills and expand your areas of expertise, giving you the chance to influence how we best meet our client needs in a growing and ever-changing market. You will also be responsible for managing projects and liaising with clients, including having input into aspects of tender preparation and identifying potential new opportunities, as well as providing mentoring and guidance to more junior members of staff in the marine mammal team.

You will have:
  • MSc degree in a Marine focused, environmental or ecological subject
  • Strong knowledge of/skills in environmental and ecological impacts
  • Expertise in marine ecology, EIA, or coastal and offshore developments, such as ports, harbours, oil and gas, offshore wind
  • Applied ecological /statistical modelling knowledge
  • Experience working in the field on marine mammal projects.

Field experience with Underwater Noise Assessment and Modelling would be beneficial, as would experience using and applying models (e.g. PBR, iPCOD, DEPONS). We are looking for someone with a strong team ethic and who is keen to work with colleagues across a range of marine disciplines. You will communicate effectively with clients and will ideally have a number of years of experience of working within a marine consultancy and preferably with experience at the senior consultant level.
