About The Role

Are you a dedicated Ecologist with a passion for plants, and well-developed habitat and plant identification skills? Do you have some experience post-graduation and are looking to contribute to impactful project work? Do you envision a role that allows you to embrace a mixture of fieldwork and technical data analysis and report writing?

We are actively searching for an Ecologist to become an essential part of our thriving Woodrow division. Woodrow is the driving force behind APEM Group’s terrestrial ecology endeavours in Ireland, engaging in a diverse range of exciting ecological projects. You'll be joining our close knit, specialist botanical and habitat survey team. The team regularly carries out habitat surveys following Heritage Council/Fossitt 2000, JNCC Phase 1, Irish Vegetation Classification (IVC) and National Vegetation Classification (NVC) levels, to identify planning constraints, inform ecological impact assessments and to demonstrate compliance with planning conditions. In addition, Woodrow’s botany team regularly conducts habitat condition assessments of Annex I and Northern Ireland Priority habitat, as well as specialist rare plant surveys.

In this crucial role, you'll be undertaking survey work in the field, writing technical reports on survey findings, and collation of field survey data and maps, supporting the team with, and drafting, environmental reports and much more. Due to the botany focus of this role, excellent plant identification skills would be required. Woodrow’s projects are often based in upland areas, and therefore a familiarity with peatland habitats would also be an advantage in this role.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:
  • Experience in undertaking field surveys and data collection.
  • Familiarity with Irish habitats and vegetation communities and knowledge of plant communities / habitats.
  • Excellent plant ID skills.
  • Experience in the ecological consultancy sector, ecological assessment and mitigation proposals.
  • Basic knowledge of GIS software.
  • Full clean driving licence.

You will be offered the chance to work on a variety of projects, many of our employees have worked on projects that have been of personal interest to them. We match this with a commitment to continuous development and learning to support your career. We also offer benefits to look after you, from private medical insurance for all employees, access to mental health first aiders and comprehensive income protection if you cannot work.
