About The Role

Do you have extensive experience working for an environmental consultancy or a water regulator focusing on freshwater environments? Are you an expert in freshwater fish ecology? Do you have strong project management and staff management experience and you are now looking for an opportunity to allow you to shape strategy and proactively manager key clients?

As APEM grows we are looking to build our freshwater team with the appointment of a new Associate Director for Freshwater Fisheries. You and your team of
aquatic scientists will deliver a range of projects for statutory bodies, the water and energy industries. You will work collaboratively with scientists who possess expertise in fisheries science, aquatic ecology and water quality, all unified by the theme of protecting the aquatic environment, whilst aiding development to take place where appropriate.

Through building strong relationships with our extensive client base, you will proactively understand their current needs and appetite for APEM’s support in future projects. You will ensure that your team are resourced and trained to meet these needs. You will be the lead expert on large-scale projects, working with multiple teams across APEM, who will be based in different locations. Your team will work with autonomy and help to deliver quality work, your Principals will ensure that all work completed is of the highest standard and scientific rigor, reinforcing APEM Groups reputation.

To be considered for this leadership role you must possess:

  • A strong professional track record in freshwater fisheries ecology, monitoring and ecological assessment.
  • Excellent understanding of freshwater fisheries ecology and assessment with relevant commercial awareness.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of policy/legislation relevant to freshwater ecology conservation and its application for aquatic ecology assessments.
  • Prior experience in organising and coordinating freshwater fisheries surveys and be well versed in both the completion and reviewing of others work.
  • Excellent staff management experience with a track record in staff development and engagement.
