Are you an experienced water resources professional who thrives on solving complex challenges for clients in the water industry? Do you enjoy working with multi-disciplinary teams to design and deliver meaningful, evidence-based solutions? Are you looking for a role that offers the freedom and flexibility of remote-first working, while remaining highly collaborative and client-facing?
We’re looking for a Senior Consultant – Water Resources Management to join APEM’s growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can confidently lead projects, manage stakeholders—including water companies and regulators—and pull together expertise from across our business to deliver high-quality outcomes.
As a remote-first role, this position suits individuals who value autonomy, flexibility, and the ability to focus without the need for daily commuting. But this isn’t a role for lone workers—you’ll be deeply connected to our dynamic team and clients, using your excellent communication skills to shape and drive projects forward.
In this role, you’ll lead technical projects such as water resources plans, drought plans, environmental assessments (e.g., WFD, HRA), and monitoring programmes. You’ll work closely with clients and regulatory bodies to deliver pragmatic, effective solutions, and you’ll play a key part in developing proposals, writing compelling reports, and identifying new business opportunities.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- A relevant BSc or MSc, plus a few years’ professional experience in water resources management, drought planning, or aquatic environmental assessment
- Strong skills in planning and delivering analytical, technical projects
- Experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders—including regulators, water companies, and internal technical teams
- Confidence in managing project budgets, timelines, and deliverables
- Excellent written communication skills, with a talent for producing clear, compelling technical reports
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- A full UK driving licence (some travel may be required)
Desirable (but not essential):
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIWEM)
- First Aid certification or CSCS card
- Experience in water cycle studies, resilience planning, or regulatory support work
At APEM, we are committed to flexible, remote-first working. You’ll have the freedom to shape your day—but also the support of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary team to help you succeed. Our values—Integrity, Quality, People, Forward Thinking, Positivity, and Fairness—are at the heart of everything we do.
If you’re ready to lead meaningful water management projects and shape sustainable outcomes across the UK’s water industry, we’d love to hear from you.
