About The Role

As APEM continues to grow its award-winning freshwater and river engineering capability, we are looking for a Principal Rivers Civil Engineer to play a leading role in the delivery and development of our river engineering services through AMP8 and beyond.

This is a senior technical and project leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape complex river engineering, restoration and flood risk management projects while influencing the future direction of APEM’s freshwater offering.

The role
You will provide senior technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of river engineering and freshwater projects, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, environmentally led solutions. Acting as a technical authority, you will support project delivery from feasibility through to implementation, provide assurance and guidance to colleagues and clients, and contribute to work-winning and service growth.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and providing technical assurance on river engineering, restoration, flood risk management and watercourse projects

  • Managing projects through all stages of delivery, ensuring quality, programme and commercial control

  • Acting as a trusted technical advisor to clients, regulators and stakeholders

  • Supporting business development, bids and client engagement

  • Mentoring and developing engineers within the freshwater team

  • Working collaboratively across disciplines to deliver integrated and sustainable outcomes

What we’re looking for

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline

  • Chartered Engineer status (ICE or equivalent), or demonstrable progression towards chartership

  • Significant experience delivering river engineering, flood risk or fluvial projects

  • Strong project leadership skills and technical credibility

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
