About The Role

Are you a marine consultant with a background in ecology or a related discipline? Do you have experience with delivering ecological impact assessments, AA screening and NIS? Do you want to be part of a growing team, working on multi-disciplinary projects across a wide range of sectors? AQUAFACT, part of the APEM Group, are looking for a Senior Marine Consultant to join their team based in Galway.

As Senior Marine Consultant, you will play a key role in leading and undertaking environmental assessments, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and Appropriate Assessments (AA) for a wide range of projects including offshore energy and power infrastructure schemes, ports and harbours, and aquaculture and coastal developments. Liaising with project stakeholders, clients and team members, you will work across the entire report lifecycle from inception to completion. Alongside this, you will be involved in project management, tendering, and project-related budget management.

Through this role, you will build on your existing knowledge and experience, developing a range of skillsets enabling you to provide high quality evidence-based assessments and strategic problem solving to clients. As a Senior consultant, you will act as a mentor and support to junior consultants in the team, developing effective management and leadership skills. You will also collaborate with the wider team in the drafting of tenders and submission to clients, eventually being responsible for winning and delivery projects, including liaising directly with clients.

You will have:

  • Relevant third level degree (Level 8 or higher) in marine science/ecology or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 12-months experience working within a planning or environmental/ecological consultancy area
  • Experience in the delivery of environmental impact assessments (EIA), AA Screening and NIS is essential.
  • Good working knowledge of Irish and EU wildlife and planning legislation such as Habitats Directive, Water Framework Directive, aquaculture licensing regulation.
  • Ability to work well in teams, meeting project deadlines both independently, and as part of the wider team.
  • GIS experience

Experience in the delivery of Ecological Impact Assessments and strong technical report writing skills would be beneficial, alongside excellent organisation and problem-solving skills, and the ability to use your own initiative in delivery high-quality technical advice and reports to clients. Membership of a professional body, working towards chartership is also desirable, but not essential.
