About the role
As a Principal consultant, you will have the opportunity to work in and help shape a rapidly developing company working on major infrastructure development projects in the UK and Ireland, particularly offshore wind. Using your expertise and understanding of the interaction of marine developments with physical processes, you’ll engage with key stakeholders and regulators, leading the delivery of coastal and marine processes related workstreams across a variety of projects at all phases. You will act as a mentor to junior colleagues, planning and managing project workloads and ensuring a culture of growth and innovation within the team. You will provide technical advice, assessment and strategic direction for our existing clients and projects, as well as specialist input and technical support on related workstreams, working closely with the wider division and Group to expand the business across the UK, Europe and worldwide.
Working closely with the Associate Director, you will play a key role in maintaining a centre of excellence for physical processes services, leading by example to ensure high quality and timely delivery throughout projects. You will become a trusted advisor for clients and stakeholders, as well as a mentor for junior staff across the sector and related teams, including having line management responsibilities. Acting as a representative of APEM Group, you’ll work closely with other Principal consultants within the Group, developing solution-focused services to our clients, while continuing to expand and apply your existing experience to our ongoing and future project portfolio, helping to expand our technical offering to clients.
You will have:
- Educated to at least degree level (preferably MSc) in a relevant discipline (Oceanography, Marine Sciences, Geosciences etc.).
- At least eight years of experience in coastal and / or marine processes, with proven contributions to EIA assessments.
- Working knowledge of the technical assessments underpinning coastal and / or marine processes (e.g. survey specification & interpretation, sensitivity of geomorphology features, seabed evolution, consequences of changes to physical processes), ideally related to offshore wind farm development.
- Excellent written and oral communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Professional manner with strong inter-personal skills and an ability to communicate at all levels.
- Experienced in managing, responding to, and communicating with both stakeholders and clients.
- Project delivery experience within wider programmes, input to large, high profile or complex projects.
- Proven experience in providing both Technical and Quality Assurance reviews to reports and project documents to ensure that they meet the highest technical standards, and the clients aims and objectives.
- Able to undertake resource management for workflows and / or people.
Previous experience in undertaking coastal and marine process work for major infrastructure projects, undertaking CBRA and seabed mobility assessments and/or of working within the planning process, ideally in England, Wales, or Scotland would be beneficial.
