About The Role

Are you an enthusiastic and driven environmental scientist with experience leading field survey teams in marine, freshwater and/or terrestrial environments? Do you have experience planning and coordinating a variety of surveys, or utilising a range of field equipment to meet client needs? Do you want the opportunity to work on a significant range of interesting and challenging projects in growing sectors, including offshore renewable energy and Ports & Harbours? AQUAFACT, part of the APEM Group are looking for a Principal Field Scientist to join our team!

As Principal Field Scientist, you will be responsible for overseeing the organisation and planning of the field team’s activities, ensuring that all field activities are delivered on time, safely and to the highest scientific standard, and working with the senior management team within AQUAFACT to develop our services across Ireland and further afield. You will also take on the role of Health and Safety Officer, working with the HSEQ team to ensure all aspects of work within AQUAFACT are risk assessed and undertaken safely.

As Principal scientist, you will lead, mentor and manage the field team, planning and co-ordinating field activities to ensure effective use of resources in fieldwork across marine, freshwater and terrestrial environments. You will act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders and clients, developing strong working relationships and providing scientific advice and guidance on a variety of surveys and field equipment, as well as ensuring all admin and project management activities are completed across the field team.

You will have:

  • Relevant third level Degree (Level 8 or higher) and at least 5 years professional experience in environmental monitoring and assessment.
  • Experience in a Health & Safety position and implementation of Health and Safety management systems.
  • Experience in managing field teams and project management.
  • Strong, creative problem-solving, organisational and analytical skills.
  • Experience in carrying out a variety of survey types, including offshore experience.
  • Experience in calibration, deployment and maintenance of various pieces of equipment.
  • Competency with the use of Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to work well in teams, work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Driving Licence.
