Are you an experienced freshwater fisheries scientist looking for the next step in your consultancy career? Do you want to work on projects that directly protect and enhance the aquatic environment while enabling responsible development?
We’re looking for a Senior Fisheries Consultant to join our nationwide Freshwater Fisheries team within the Water Management Division. This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise while taking a lead in shaping projects, mentoring colleagues, and influencing how fisheries science supports real-world environmental decisions.
Our fisheries team delivers a diverse range of services - from fish and eel passage assessments, habitat evaluations and impact studies to regulatory assessments such as EIA, HRA and WFD. You’ll work on projects for water companies, environment agencies, and clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors, helping them balance progress with environmental stewardship.
As a Senior, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality outputs, managing projects, contributing to tenders, and developing client relationships. You’ll also have opportunities to design and deliver field-based surveys, lead elements of technical work, and mentor consultant-level scientists as they develop their careers.
What we’re looking for
You’ll need to bring:
-
At least 3–4 years’ relevant work experience in fisheries or aquatic ecology
-
Strong knowledge of fisheries science and related aquatic disciplines
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Solid organisational and project management skills
-
Experience working in consultancy or a similar client-focused environment
It’s a bonus if you have:
-
Professional accreditation (or are working towards it)
-
Experience preparing tenders and technical reports
-
Experience engaging directly with clients and building relationships
-
Hands-on experience with field-based fisheries surveys (e.g. electric-fishing, netting, tagging)
