Are you an experienced marine surveyor ready to take the lead on large-scale offshore projects? Do you enjoy managing teams, shaping strategy and improving the way marine surveys are delivered? Are you looking for a role where you can influence direction, innovate, and help grow a specialist global survey capability?
We’re looking for a Marine Survey Manager to join our Marine BioLabs & Surveys Division — a team known for delivering class-leading benthic sampling, analysis and offshore fieldwork. This is a senior role with real breadth: strategy, project oversight, team leadership, client engagement and technical excellence.
As Marine Survey Manager, you’ll lead, expand and diversify our survey services — working with marine scientists across benthic ecology, fisheries, hydrology, geomorphology and water quality. You’ll oversee the planning and safe delivery of large-scale offshore surveys, manage client relationships, shape business development opportunities, and help drive innovation across our UK and international survey programmes.
You’ll work closely with Directors, Associate Directors and Principal Consultants to build a thriving, profitable, high-performing team while supporting APEM Group’s continued global expansion, including opportunities to contribute to international survey campaigns.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- A degree in Biology or a related marine/environmental discipline
- At least 5 years’ commercial offshore survey experience, including leading marine and benthic surveys
- Strong capability with safe deployment/recovery of survey equipment (grabs, cores, nets, water samplers, camera systems)
- Proven experience leading and motivating technical teams
- Excellent project management, commercial awareness and client-facing skills
- Experience preparing proposals, costings and delivering high-quality reports
- A passion for developing marine survey capability and improving outcomes for staff, clients and the environment
- Outstanding attention to detail and a commitment to high technical standards
What helps you stand out:
- Experience contributing to business cases or Capex planning
- Involvement in recruitment, skills planning or team growth
- Experience monitoring performance (project or personnel)
- Input into cost–benefit analysis or service optimisation
- A track record of mentoring or upskilling technical teams
- International project experience, including understanding of relevant legislation in other jurisdictions
At APEM Group, you’ll join a collaborative, forward-thinking team that blends deep scientific expertise with global delivery. This is a role with real impact, influence and scope to grow, where you’ll play a key part in growing our offshore survey capability, shaping technical excellence, improving safety, and supporting our mission to protect aquatic environments while enabling responsible development.
