About The Role

Are you a hydromorphologist looking to build your consultancy career on varied, meaningful projects that help shape and restore our freshwater environments? Do you enjoy combining fieldwork with technical analysis and design, while developing your skills within a supportive, expert team?

We’re looking for a Consultant Hydromorphologist to join our Water Management Division, working within our growing Freshwater team. This role offers exposure to a wide and interesting workload across environmental assessments, river and wetland restoration, peatland restoration, drainage and sediment management, water resources and hydrometry.

You’ll split your time between desk-based technical work and field investigations, giving you the opportunity to develop strong analytical, design and reporting skills alongside hands-on survey experience. You’ll be supported by APEM’s highly experienced, multi-disciplinary consultancy and field teams as you develop your technical capability and grow your confidence in project delivery, client interaction and commercial awareness.

This is a role designed to support progression. As you develop, you’ll gain exposure to project management, tendering and client-facing work, with clear opportunities to expand your responsibilities and technical specialisms over time.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need to bring:

  • A desire to apply hydromorphology skills to address current and future environmental challenges

  • A strong understanding of hydrological and hydromorphological processes and analysis

  • Excellent numerical analysis skills, including GIS and other data analysis packages

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines

  • Flexibility to manage changing priorities

  • A logical, problem-solving mindset

It’s a bonus if you have:

  • Experience with catchment or hydraulic modelling (e.g. HEC-RAS or Flood Modeller)

  • Field hydrometry experience

  • AutoCAD skills

  • Statistical analysis or R experience

  • Experience contributing to one or more of the following: river and riparian restoration design, Surface Water Management Plans, Construction Environmental Management Plans, Natural Flood Management, drainage assessments, Local Nature Recovery Plans, Flood Risk Assessments or water resources assessments

Next steps

We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team. If you can’t tick every box on our job description, then we are still keen to hear from you and are open to supporting your development. That may be working part time or supporting you to gain experience in a specific area – we are a growing company and are able to adapt roles to reflect individual skills.

If you think you have what it takes to join our fast-growing business, then please apply immediately on our website. All we need is some basic information and your CV; we will review all applications quickly and will respond to all applicants.
