Are you an effective communicator with a passion for ornithology? Do you enjoy supporting clients whilst advocating for our natural environment? Are you looking to engage in a passion for birds married with the opportunity to grow your career, all whilst grounded in up-to-date scientific thinking? We’re looking for a Senior Ornithology Consultant to join our consultancy team, supporting projects across terrestrial, intertidal and offshore environments.
As a Senior Ornithology Consultant, you’ll work on projects from proposal through to reporting — preparing costed tenders, managing survey delivery, analysing and modelling bird data, and producing high-quality baseline, EIA and HRA reports.
You’ll liaise directly with clients, regulators and stakeholders, providing expert ornithological and planning advice on large infrastructure and development projects. Internally, you’ll be a trusted adviser to colleagues in other disciplines, helping integrate ornithology into multidisciplinary assessments. Alongside project delivery, you’ll support and mentor junior team members, helping maintain high technical standards and a collaborative, solutions-focused culture.
You’ll bring:
- A sound knowledge of ornithology, birding ecology, demography and behaviour.
- Passion about core-specialisms and the ability to engage with other like-minded specialists and non-specialists (regulators, clients and colleagues).
- Experience contributing to or leading EcIA and HRA reports
- Confidence interpreting and presenting bird data for planning purposes
- The ability to manage projects to time and budget
- Clear, professional communication skills with clients and stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills.
- Problem solving and innovation
You may also have experience with specialist survey techniques, GIS/QGIS for data presentation, or statistical analysis in R. An understanding of the UK planning process and commercial awareness from consultancy would be advantageous. Most importantly, you’ll be a collaborative team player — thoughtful under pressure, solutions-focused, and motivated by producing high-quality work that makes a difference.
You will be offered the chance to work on a variety of projects, many of our employees have worked on projects that have been of personal interest to them. We match this with a commitment to continuous development and learning to support your career.
