About The Role

It’s an exciting time to join APEM. Following a re-organisation to focus on key markets on a regional basis we’re looking for a Commercial Finance Manager to support our largest UK & Ireland business unit, Ecosystems & Environmental Management (EEM).EEM work across water, land and marine science, working on projects such as river water quality monitoring, biodiversity monitoring and mitigating the impact of offshore wind on birds and marine mammals. 

This is a key leadership role, working closely with the EEM leadership team and UK&I Finance leadership, you’ll play a central role in shaping financial performance, supporting strategic decisions and helping the business scale sustainably. You will become a trusted advisor to senior leaders, strengthening forecasting accuracy, improving financial discipline and enabling data-driven decision-making across the business. You’ll help drive commercial performance, support the integration of new acquisitions, and ensure the business has the insight and controls needed to deliver ambitious growth.

You’ll lead on budgeting and forecasting, develop meaningful KPIs, and provide clear, actionable insight into revenue, profitability and performance. Alongside this, you’ll drive improvements in working capital, strengthen reporting and dashboards (with a move towards Power BI), and support better financial governance across projects and programmes.

APEM are a remote first organisation allowing your flexibility to work from home for most of your time. Our Leadership team and finance team are based in South Manchester, therefore we would expect you to be in the office once a week on average, so we have a strong preference for someone based in North West England/West Yorkshire.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Strong experience in a commercial finance or finance leadership role, supporting senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes
  • Experience managing P&L performance and KPI reporting
  • Excellent data analysis and financial modelling skills, including scenario planning
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience developing dashboards and insights
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for non-finance stakeholders
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to challenge and influence

Desirable / bonus:

  • Experience in a consultancy, project-based or professional services environment
  • Experience supporting high-growth or acquisitive businesses, including integration activity
  • Experience working with Power BI or similar tools
  • Exposure to client-facing commercial discussions
  • Experience working within a matrixed organisation
